CAREER BUILDING OF YOUNG GENERATION IN MERCHANT NAVY FROM PAKISTAN.


  





Introduction To The Merchant Navy :

Merchant Navy is an attractive and romantic profession for the youth.  Pakistan is a developing country and its economy is growing rapidly.  With this pace of growth in the economy, it is predicated that in the near future Merchant  Navy jobs in Pakistan for the youth  will be increased.  Thus the growth of a viable national shipping industry depends upon the availability of trained and qualified manpower.  According to a survey today, in Pakistan there are more than 20 thousands officers of Merchant Navy in Pakistan. 15 to 20 percent of this ratio is performing their duty on Pakistani ships while 40 to 45 percent are employed with foreign shipping agencies. Rest of the 40 percent official are jobless.  For the time being, this trend shows that the situation of jobs in this field is poor. But it dos not mean that this will last for long. Middle Eastern countries like Iran, Kuwait, D.A.E and Saudi Arabia offer excellent job opportunities to Pakistani Officers.  Career opportunities in Europe are also attract Pakistan professionals

Merchant Nature Navy jobs:


In this profession officers are to work different kind of duties.  There are two branches for officers to work namely Deck Branch and Engineering Branch.  Deck Branch officers are responsible to sail the ship safe and sound monitor the loading and unloading of cargo and take care of ship.  Obtaining information about the shipping traffic, dangers of this field and gaining information about weather are includes in the duties of the deck officers. 
Engineer Branch officers are responsible to run the machines and equipments of the ship.  They take care of the engines.  All the engineers and other relevant staff work under the guidance of the Chief Engineer who is the chief of the engineering branch.  Engineers’ duties include taking care of Diesel Engine, Steam Engine, Electric Generator, Electrical Installation, air conditioning plant, Pumps, Plumbing, Cairns, and Equipment relating to steering, commercial cargo.  

Working Condition :
Professionals in this field have to remain out sides from their home to perform their duties and ship is their home as well as work place.  A sea voyage can be of six month duration and some time more than six year.  Normally the lodging and boarding facilities are excellent.  Some shipping companies allow keeping wife and children with oneself.  But this facility is offered only to the officers.

The Maritime Training Institute, Karachi was formed in 1998 to protect Pakistan's strategic maritime interest as well as to promote the Education & Training in compliance to the International Convention on Standards of Training and Certification of Seafarers 1978, as amended in 1995, and to satisfy the recommendations of IMO/ILO Documents of Guidance 1985. With this new setup a macro approach towards global maritime issues can be adopted which will better serve the interests of the Shipping and Maritime Industry.



FORMATION :
The Maritime Training Institute, Karachi was formed in 1998 to protect Pakistan's strategic maritime interest as well as to promote the Education & Training in compliance to the International Convention on Standards of Training and Certification of Seafarers 1978, as amended in 1995, and to satisfy the recommendations of IMO/ILO Documents of Guidance 1985.         To conduct and promote Education and Training in all spheres of  
             Shipping and Maritime Industry.

·         To produce "Well Trained Seafarers" in order to meet the challenge of the sea trade.
·             To develop working with other agencies and organizations so as to introduce and promote Pakistan's seafarers and to make Pakistan a top class international maritime centre.
                   

EDUCATION AND TRAINING :

Maritime Training Institute provides a comprehensive range of education and training programs for New Entrants and Existing Seafarers, to build up and advance their career.
All the Courses & training programs, conform to international requirements, and are regularly offered to meet the changing demands of the Shipping & Maritime Industry.
Maritime Training Institute also organizes recreational activities and administers welfare schemes for seafarers.

ESTABLISHMENT :


:The Principal is a Chief Administrative Officer In charge of the Institute, and is responsible to the Director, Training & Studies of the Institute for smooth and efficient operation of the Institute including future plans & development.
The Principal is assisted by the Vice Principal, Heads of Department and Course Co-ordinators in day-to-day operation of the Institute.
The teaching staff of the institute are well experienced, Educationist, and are ex- sea going officers holding various class of certificates of competency, appropriate to their rank.
